Life update: we’re moving to Charlotte! On June 6, we’ll be leaving our homegrown Indiana roots behind for the first time. My parents moved to Charlotte two years ago after living in Fort Wayne, IN for 25 years. I’ve dreamed about living in the Carolina’s since a 5th grade trip to the Outer Banks, but I didn’t see my life heading in that direction, at least anytime soon. The past couple of years have been filled with uncertainty and a journey to find contentment in Jesus (although I think that’s just how life goes on this side of eternity). To give you a better idea of God’s good provision and everything that has gone on behind the scenes, here is a little timeline:
October 2017
I transition to a new job in Bloomington, IN that I’m very excited about! Meanwhile, my parents move to Rock Hill, SC for a job change.
January 2018
CJ calls me on New Years Day to ask me on a date.
July 2018
CJ’s job asks him to do a 6 month assignment in Switzerland. Thankfully, they allow him to work from the U.S. half of the time, which meant 1-2 trips overseas per month. We are banking on this turning into a long term (2-5 year) assignment. Our hopes are high that we will be living overseas for a few years.
August 2018
We’re engaged!
October 2018
My parents move just across the border into Charlotte, NC.
December 2018
Our wedding. <3
January 2019
We find out that Switzerland isn’t going to pan out. We’re both severely disappointed, but quickly pivot and plan for what could be next.
May 2019
CJ starts pursuing full-time MBA options. We land on Northwestern, Duke, and Columbia.
December 2019
After a long 6 months of prepping, testing, visiting, and applying to grad schools, none of them work out. It is a disappointment, but we feel overwhelming peace at the same time. We realize that North Carolina is where we want to be. After visiting 5+ times throughout the year, we both fell in love!
January 2020
Deloitte comes to mind. This is a company that CJ would have looked into after grad school, had it worked out. It turns out my parents know a partner in the Charlotte Deloitte office, so they connect us.
February 2020
After job-searching since June, I accept an offer for a fully remote job at a marketing agency. Working remotely for a start-up marketing company = a perfect fit in my books.
March 2020
Deloitte offers CJ his dream job. Offer accepted. 🙂
All of this to say, I’m thankful that we didn’t get what we thought we wanted. A couple months ago, I volunteered in preschool at church for the first time. The verse of the week happened to be Jeremiah 29:11, which says “I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” I needed to hear this reminder that day! I look forward to what is awaiting us in Charlotte, and am grateful for a reason to celebrate in this season. It may be an unfortunate way to leave our life here, but who knows, maybe we’ll end up back home one day. We’re just taking it one day at a time.
