One of my favorite things to do in the new year is to set my yearly reading goal in the Goodreads app. This year, my goal is to read at least 15 books. I tried to get on the audio train this year, but I still prefer a good, old-fashioned book! Some of these have been on my list for years, and most are sitting on our bookshelf today. The genres on this list include Christian development, personal development, and fiction. If I make it through this list, there are a couple of biographies in the queue. Here are the 15 books I’ll be reading in 2020:
Every Good Endeavor by Timothy Keller
I’m involved in an organization called Edge, which is mentorship for Christians in the workforce. My group will be going through this together. I’ve been wanting to read this for a while, so I was excited when everyone was on board.
The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis
CJ and I read the first book out loud together, and we’re hoping to finish it this year. I’ve never seen the movies all the way through, and I want to read it before I do. I love fiction/fantasy.
Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking by Susan Cain
I have been wanting to read this for a while too, so when we found it at a bookstore in Milan, I had to get it. I’ve heard amazing things, and can’t wait to find out for myself.
Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers
Francine Rivers is one of my favorite authors. She writes Christian fiction that moves me to tears every time! This book is loved by so many, and if it’s anything like her other books, I’m sure it’s incredible.
The Gospel Comes with a House Key by Rosaria Butterfield
This book is about hospitality, and was recommended to me by a friend a couple of years ago. We want to have an open home, and love hosting, and this author has a great perspective on that.
Becoming by Michelle Obama
I have always respected and looked up to Michelle Obama, so I can’t wait to hear what she has to say in this book.
Seasons of Waiting: Walking by Faith When Dreams Are Delayed by Betsy Howard
This is another book that was recommended to me by a friend. We have been in a season of waiting for the past year, and I just know that this book will be good for the soul!
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: Parts One and Two by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany, Jack Thorne
I have no idea why I haven’t finished this book. I’m obsessed with HP, but I also didn’t want the series to be completely over. This is the year I finally finish this!
What Did You Expect?: Redeeming the Realities of Marriage by Paul David Tripp
I love the Paul David Tripp books I’ve read in the past, and I’ve heard great things about this one. Plus, I love books about marriage!
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
You always need a classic on the list. I bought this on one of our trips last year since I’m trying to collect all of the classics. It wasn’t required for me in high school, so I feel out of the loop.
The Road Back to You: An Enneagram Journey to Self-Discovery by Ian Morgan Cron and Suzanne Stabile
I’ve been learning more about the Enneagram, but still have a lot to learn. Apparently this book is a must for Enneagram lovers!
Respectable Sins by Jerry Bridges
This is a quick read that is currently on the shelf. Jerry Bridges is a great author, and this is a great topic. I think it will be very convicting and I’m excited to grow more in this area.
Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens
If you have to be put on a waiting list to get a book from the library, it must be pretty good! Also recommended by a friend, as well as a bestseller. I love fiction, so I’m looking forward to getting lost in this one.
Boundaries (When to Say Yes, How to Say No, To Take Control of Your Life) by Henry Cloud
CJ and I are both “yes” people. We are looking forward to both reading this to grow in creating boundaries for ourselves and for our marriage.
Messy Beautiful Friendship: Finding and Nurturing Deep and Lasting Relationships by Christine Hoover
Friendship is a topic that has been on my mind a lot lately. Another area that I’m looking to grow in, and learn about from a Christian perspective.
Thanks for reading about the 15 books I’ll be reading in 2020! What are some books on your list for this year? Or some books that you would recommend?
